Project Description

The Anime Index

The Anime Index started off as an HTML coding website to review and summarize various anime series that I was watching at the time of making the website. Although the website started off as a school project, I continued working on it for over a year and amassed a peak daily average visitor count of over 230.

The Anime Index website no longer receives any content updates but is regularly maintained and optimized for SEO. Building and publishing over 200 pages on the website was an eye-opener to the capabilities and limitations of HTML compared to modern WordPress website design. I consider the success the website had to be attributed to the consistent SEO efforts and almost daily content additions. All-in-all The Anime Index was the site that taught me that there is more to ranking than WordPress plugins. Content is king.

The Problem & Result

The Anime Index was created to satisfy the need for universal Anime character analysis, reviews, and anime convention news. The online market for anime news websites is not very saturated in the English market, with the established players being slow to update, or missing information. Shortly after creating the website, it began to rank highly on Google and in 2 months ranked number 1 for the key term “The Anime Index.”

Manually installing Google Analytics to the website allowed me to track the pages users visited, where they came from, who they are, and what they did on The Anime Index’s website. As of November 2o20, The website has received over 62,000 pageviews and nearly 40,000 organic searches.
